READY AREA PARENT: The Ready Area Parents will supervise swimmers during the meets. Assemble the swimmers by their heats and lanes. Take the swimmers to the deck area prior to their races.
DECK AREA PARENTS: The Deck Area Volunteers are at the starting blocks making sure the swimmers are in line and ready for their races. Swimmers can be easily distracted (especially the young ones), so it is important for the Deck Area Volunteer to make sure the swimmer actually steps up to the blocks when it is their turn to race. Each volunteer is assigned side-by-side lanes and your primary responsibility is Torpedoes swimmers.
HEAD TIMER: The Head Timer will make sure that all lanes have the correct number of timers at home meets, hand out stopwatches and that all timers have working stopwatches. During the meets, the Head Timer will make sure the timers know how to time and know how to record the swimmers time correctly. The Head Timer will run two extra stopwatches as back up for stopwatch failure.
LANE TIMER: If you like to be close to the action, this job is for you. When the Meet Official sounds the starting tone, the timers start the stopwatches. When the swimmer touches the side of the pool, they stop the stopwatches and record the swimmers time. There will be three timers per lane.
TIMER SHEET/DQ SLIP RUNNER: The Deck Runner retrieves the time sheets from the timers as they complete the sheet and turns the sheet into the Meet Maestro Operator. This volunteer also picks up the DQ slips from the Stroke and Turn Judges after each heat and takes the slips to the Meet Official and then the Score Keeper. It is a good idea to wear comfortable shoes since this job requires a lot of walking.
STROKE AND TURN JUDGE: The Stroke and Turn Judge watches the swimmers in each race to determine whether the swimmer is doing the correct and legal stroke. There is a mandatory league sponsored workshop. It requires the knowledge of the USA swimming rules and regulations. Also, it requires the willingness to disqualify swimmers from both sides. Special attire is required (white collared shirt with navy shorts).
ANNOUNCER/STARTER: Announces the upcoming events, keeps the meet running smoothly, on the pool deck starting each heat, “Swimmers take your mark, beep!”.
CONCESSIONS: The Concession stand volunteer will work with the Concessions Chair to help set up, sell and clean up the concession stand at the home meets. The duties are split in to 1st half which includes setup prior to meet and the 2nd half which includes clean-up after the meet.
MEET SET-UP AND CLEAN-UP: Before home meets, this volunteer will arrive two hours before the meet starts and help arrange tables, chairs, umbrellas, tents, signs, lane lines, starting blocks and flags. After the meet, this volunteer stays to make sure everything is in its place and clean.
